On November 13, something woke all of the residents of Indian Falls, Minn., at 437 a.m. and has kept them awake since then. No one yawns. Until they die. Now, with the death toll rising and the town on its own, a small band of residents decide to fight back.

This book was a pleasant read that took me about a day to read. The premise is simple. Everyone in a small town wakes up at 4:37 in the morning and cannot go back to sleep. No one feels tired unless they leave the town. This starts to become a problem after days then weeks of no sleep. The mystery could have been a little deeper for my taste. I found it entertaining, but the mystery was a little superficial. It had so many possibilities. I suggest to this writer to put more meat on it if he is going to write in a similar genre. I am never the person who figures out the mystery. I am one of the most gullible how did they do that magic trick kind of person. So for me to actually kind of guess the mystery was not a good sign in my opinion. Plus, I found the ending to be wrapped up in a way too quick really lazy way.

The great thing about this story was the character development! The characters were so well written that they felt like real people. This author has a real talent for writing about characters. The characters that live in this town talked and felt the way people do in real life. I could relate to so many of their stories! This was by far my favorite part of this story. The way that each person's experience and point of view was told was the best part.

So overall I would rate this as a 3.5.... Mostly because I did enjoy the read even if it was a little superficial.

I too started this book and right away realized I wasn't going to be able to put it down until I found out what happened! I really liked how well-described and believable the characters were and could picture them in real life. I think the characters combined with the location setting made this story a bit more believable compared to others in the same genre. I would encourage those readers, who like me, don't normally read sci-fi type books, to read it. I got to the end and wanted more. Great weekend read!!
To cut right to the chase...this is a real good book, and I highly recommend it. It is well-written, crisp, flows smoothly, and hits hard. I made the mistake of taking it to bed the first night, and I advise against it. Unlike most books, it will not put you to sleep. This has real movie possibilities, and you will enjoy the ending. Five stars, three thumbs up (I had to borrow one just to make a point).
To quote a previous poster "I had recently read Stephen King's Under The Dome, and at first, 437 struck me as similar. Both feature small American towns, where ordinary people must deal with a strange happening. The similarities end there, however..."

But they don't. 437 feels like the author had just read Under The Dome and thought he could do better. I was extremely intrigued by the premise, but the characters, which are detailed enough in backstory, feel like their dialogue is coming from one person (i.e. the singular mind that wrote them) and not multiple, believable people.

The ending was especially damaging; after spending so much time with these people and the problem they faced, it seemed short, forced and quite a cop-out. I didn't like how Under The Dome ended, but this was worse. If more time had been spent explaining the reasons behind everything and the aftermath of it all, it could have been better.
I ordered this book because I've spent a lot of vacation time in the area in which the book is set and I enjoy mysteries. I'm not much of a sci-fi fan, but this book focused more on the mystery than the sci-fi.

I think what made this book hard to put down was the characters. The author did a great job of developing characters that you can relate to and that you feel like you "know" so you want to know how they'll survive this situation.

Like another reviewer, I did feel like the ending was a bit abrupt; however, it answered the key questions, so I didn't leave the book feeling like it was unfinished. Overall, a good mystery that is a pretty quick and compelling read.
I found this book quite the page-turner.* I thought the mystery was compelling enough to keep me up reading late at night. I don't think the ending was abrupt so much as the book was short (I already read pretty fast). I don't know how the author could have lengthened the book or mystery - more people dying, more people not leaving Indian Falls - so I am okay with the length. Better too short than drug out.

I like it for the same reason I liked the TV show Lost good character stories, good mystery and it doesn't show you every single wrap-up at the end. Thank you for encouraging people to use logic.

I actually enjoyed most of this book...the characters, the "mystery", the action...but I was sorely disappointed in the ending. It was just a little TOO quickly wrapped up to FEEL right. I seriously thought my must have glitched on the pages and that the rest of the ending would be on the next location so I "turned" to the next page and...I was wrong. It was over...just.like.that. Sorry, but it seemed hurried and incomplete...like the author just wanted to be "done" with it.
I too read "Under the Dome" but I did not go into this book with the expectation to compare it to another author. That being said, I enjoyed the book. It was a fast read. I was intrigued about the "who and why", who did it to the people and why are they being experimented on. I was let down at that end because it was open-ended. Will there be other towns experimented on? Who was really behind it all? Maybe there is a sequel that will have one of the townspeople hearing about another town in the same situation and digging into the "who". Overall, I have recommended the book to other people because it was a good read.
